California Man Sentenced to More Than 16 Years’ Imprisonment for Methamphetamine and Firearm

OMAHA, Neb. — Acting U.S. Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Sergio Ambriz, 38, of Paramount, California, was sentenced in federal court for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offence. Chief U.S. District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. sentenced Ambriz to 200 months’ imprisonment, 140 months on the drug charge and a consecutive 60 months on the gun charge. There is no parole in the federal system. After Ambriz’s release from prison he will begin a 5-year term of supervised release.

On Dec. 29, 2022, an Omaha Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Omaha city limits where Ambriz was identified as a passenger who appeared nervous. A search of the vehicle revealed a black satchel under Ambriz’s seat containing 1.2 pounds meth, 1.075 pounds of meth cocaine fentanyl mixture and a Ruger LCP .380 handgun. The driver said Ambriz had the satchel with him when he entered her vehicle.

This case was investigated by the Omaha Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
