ESGCoca-Cola Launches 100% Recycled Plastic Bottles in Canada, Aims to Save Millions of Pounds of New Plastic

The Coca-Cola Company has announced the launch of 100% recycled plastic bottles in Canada. All 500 ml sparkling beverage bottles, including flagship brands like Coca-Cola, Sprite, and Fanta, will use 100% recycled plastic (excluding caps and labels) by early 2024. This initiative is expected to save 7.6 million pounds of new plastic in 2024 and reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 7,000 metric tons annually.

The move aligns with Coca-Cola’s “World Without Waste” goal, aiming to create bottles with 50% recycled content by 2030 and collect and recycle the equivalent of a bottle or can for every one sold globally by 2030. The company also aims to make 100% of its packaging recyclable by 2025. Coca-Cola now offers 100% recycled plastic bottles in over 40 markets.

The production of these 100% recycled plastic bottles will be carried out by Coke Canada Bottling at facilities across Canada, and they will feature “Recycle Me Again” messaging to raise consumer awareness and encourage bottle recycling. This initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint.
