OFAC Settles with Privilege Underwriters for $466,200 Over Russia Sanctions Violations

Recent Regulations & NewsOFAC Settles with Privilege Underwriters for $466,200 Over Russia Sanctions Violations

OFAC has reached a settlement with New York-based insurance organization Privilege Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange (PURE), requiring PURE to pay $466,200 for 39 potential violations of US Russia sanctions. The violations occurred when PURE issued insurance policies to Medallion, a company owned by Viktor Vekselberg, who was designated by OFAC in April 2018. Despite the designation, PURE collected $308,391 in insurance premiums and paid a $7,500 claim post-sanctions. The settlement amount reflects OFAC’s determination that PURE’s violations were not voluntarily disclosed and were non-egregious.
