U.S. Special Advisor on International Disability Rights Sara Minkara and Department of Labor Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy Taryn Williams met with the China Disabled Persons’ Federation (CDPF) to resume the U.S.-China Coordination Meeting on Disability, and to advance disability rights with respect to inclusive education, employment, rehabilitation, and the development of accessible, barrier-free environments.

The Special Advisor underscored U.S. commitment to finding areas of collaboration to advance disability rights in the United States and the People’s Republic of China (PRC). She shared ongoing U.S. efforts to address key issues of concern for persons with disabilities in the United States regarding barrier-free accessibility and inclusive education, including creating opportunities for higher education. Assistant Secretary Williams discussed U.S. success in leveraging technology and artificial intelligence to create new and meaningful employment opportunities for the U.S. workforce.

The Special Advisor and Assistant Secretary also discussed the importance of involving persons with disabilities in any policy, program, or legislation that will impact persons with disabilities. The United States and CDPF agreed on the importance of continuing to seek out potential areas of cooperation as part of ongoing efforts to maintain open channels.
