Cameroonian fintech company Koree has emerged as the victor in the 2023 Ecobank Fintech Challenge hosted by Pan-African Banking Group Ecobank. Koree’s winning entry is a card wallet payment solution that digitizes merchant payments, earning the company a $50,000 prize. Notably, Koree is the first female-led fintech to secure the top spot in this competition, surpassing eight other finalists.
This year’s competition attracted participation from over 1,400 fintechs across 64 countries, underscoring its growing popularity and the abundance of innovation, particularly from Africa. The winners were announced during the Grand Finale at Ecobank Group’s headquarters in Lomé, Togo. Wolf Technology from the Democratic Republic of Congo secured the second prize of $10,000, while Kenya’s Flexpay Technologies took third place with a $5,000 prize.
The remaining finalists included IPOXcap AI from South Africa, Kastelo from South Africa, Kori Tech from Senegal, Smart Teller Technologies from Nigeria, and Belgium-based Rubyx. All eight finalists have been inducted into the Ecobank Fintech Fellowship, offering opportunities for potential commercial partnerships with Ecobank and potential integration with the bank’s platforms across its 35 African markets.
The Ecobank Fintech Challenge, initiated in 2017, has attracted over 5,500 submissions from fintech innovators across 64 countries in six editions. It has provided 60 exceptional fintechs with the opportunity to join the Ecobank Fintech Fellowship.
