Las Vegas Residents Arrested in Drug and Money Laundering Conspiracy

Human RightsLas Vegas Residents Arrested in Drug and Money Laundering Conspiracy

Rushan Lavar Reed, aged 46, and Celeste Nicole Reed, aged 26, both residents of Las Vegas, Nevada, have been arrested on charges related to the alleged sale of illegal drugs and money laundering. These charges were officially announced by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Special Agent in Charge Wayne Jacobs of the FBI Washington Field Office’s Criminal and Cyber Division.

According to the recently unsealed indictment, the Reeds, from March 2017, were involved in a conspiracy, working with known and unknown individuals, to distribute narcotics containing substances like oxycodone, hydrocodone, and amphetamine. Additionally, the indictment alleges that the defendants engaged in financial transactions linked to the proceeds of illegal drug trafficking.

If found guilty, each defendant faces a maximum statutory sentence of 10 years in prison for the drug distribution conspiracy and 10 years for the money laundering conspiracy. It’s important to note that the maximum statutory sentence for federal offenses is established by Congress and is mentioned here for informational purposes. The final sentencing will be determined by the court, taking into account advisory Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office, alongside the Office of the Inspector General of the District of Columbia, with support from the FBI Las Vegas Field Office and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, is leading the investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gary Crosby and Andy Wang, from the Violence Reduction and Trafficking Offenses Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

It’s important to remember that an indictment is an accusation, and all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
