Infosys and Economist Impact Launch VCN Platform: Navigating Scope 3 Emissions for a Sustainable Future

ESGInfosys and Economist Impact Launch VCN Platform: Navigating Scope 3 Emissions for a Sustainable Future

Infosys and Economist Impact, a division of the Economist Group, have jointly launched the Value Chain Navigator (VCN) platform. This platform aims to assist businesses in understanding and reducing their scope 3 value chain emissions, which encompass all indirect emissions in an organization’s value chain. Scope 3 emissions include those from purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting, waste disposal, product use, transportation, distribution, investments, and leased assets.

The VCN platform addresses the fact that up to 95% of a company’s carbon footprint comprises scope 3 emissions, yet only a quarter of businesses include them in their net-zero plans. Regulatory pressure is growing globally for companies to report on scope 3 emissions, with standards like the EU’s CSRD and the IFRS’ ISSB requiring such disclosure.

The VCN is a digital platform that offers interactive tracking, tools, and tailored recommendations to help businesses navigate the complexities of their scope 3 emissions. It will be integrated into The Sustainability Project, a content and community platform developed by Economist Impact and built by Infosys to promote sustainable solutions.

Key features of the VCN platform include the ability to explore scope 3 emissions across various business activity areas defined by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), discover how other companies address these emissions through a global survey, receive personalized recommendations for reducing emissions, and track media coverage of scope 3 innovation and regulation.

This initiative reflects the increasing importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility for businesses worldwide.
