Unlocking Green Opportunities: EY and Microsoft Launch Free ‘Green Skills Passport’ Program

Big 4 CornerUnlocking Green Opportunities: EY and Microsoft Launch Free 'Green Skills Passport' Program

EY and Microsoft have launched the Green Skills Passport, a free online program aimed at helping learners aged 16 and over develop skills for green jobs and opportunities in the growing green economy. This initiative is part of a larger social impact collaboration between the two organizations, focusing on sustainability, science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and upskilling for young people. The program aims to address the skills gap in sustainability by equipping young individuals with the green expertise needed to succeed in the evolving job market.

The Green Skills Passport offers a 10-hour virtual course that allows participants to learn at their own pace. It covers key topics such as sustainability, entrepreneurship, and skills for employment. The program provides a detailed approach to skills development, with EY-curated learning paths delivered through the Microsoft Community Training platform.

According to the International Labor Organization, there will be 24 million green jobs created by 2030. The Green Skills Passport aims to prepare learners for these emerging opportunities while also providing NGOs with a platform to empower underserved communities with valuable employable skills.

The program has already seen success through pilot programs in the United States, India, and Bangladesh, with over 1,400 course completions and certificates awarded. A significant percentage of participants expressed their intent to apply for green jobs or pursue further education in sustainability-related fields.

EY and Microsoft have a history of collaborating on various social impact programs, including initiatives focused on entrepreneurship, upskilling, and STEM education. These efforts align with both organizations’ goals to make a positive impact on society and promote a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future.
