Oklahoma’s Attorney General, Gentner Drummond (R), has launched an anonymous tipline for citizens to report suspected illegal marijuana grow operations as part of a broader effort to combat illicit drug activity. This initiative coincides with the creation of the Organized Crime Task Force, aimed at shutting down illegal marijuana cultivation across the state.
The Organized Crime Task Force will collaborate with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control and the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority to address illegal grow operations and investigate related illicit activities, including human trafficking and the distribution of drugs like fentanyl.
Drummond expressed concern over the rise of illegal marijuana cultivation in Oklahoma, often linked to Mexican drug cartels and Chinese crime syndicates. He has made it a priority to crack down on such operators and bolster enforcement of the state’s medical marijuana laws.
The task force comprises four dedicated prosecutors and 11 agents with extensive federal and state law enforcement experience, including former members of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, a former deputy U.S. marshal, and a former U.S. Navy SEAL.
Furthermore, a new law set to take effect on November 1 will grant Drummond’s office enhanced authority to enforce the state’s medical marijuana laws. This includes conducting unannounced inspections of grow operations, seizing and destroying illegal drugs, and coordinating enforcement efforts with other state agencies.
