Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) Enhancing Net Zero Investment Framework (NZIF) with NZIF 2.0

ESGInstitutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) Enhancing Net Zero Investment Framework (NZIF) with NZIF 2.0

The Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) is enhancing its Net Zero Investment Framework (NZIF) with NZIF 2.0, aiming for a more interactive and investor-driven approach.

Before the launch of NZIF 2.0, IIGCC will introduce guidance for new asset classes, such as derivatives and hedge funds. The anticipated launch date for NZIF 2.0 is mid-2024, with a more specific timeline expected in January.

NZIF, initially launched in 2021, offers investors guidance to align their portfolios with net zero goals, encompassing various asset classes. Members of IIGCC’s Paris Aligned Investment Initiative and the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative are encouraged to use the framework.

IIGCC is set to review existing asset class guidelines, with a particular focus on sovereign bond guidance. They have established a working group to assess new data sources and alignment criteria for sovereign debt, ensuring investors have access to high-quality data for effective engagement on climate finance.

Future efforts will include providing guidance for investors in passive and index investing, concentrating on engagements with providers like Bloomberg, FTSE Russell, and MSCI.

Looking ahead, IIGCC plans to explore the integration of nature-related themes and metrics into the NZIF.
