Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange, Bitget, is strengthening its know-your-customer (KYC) requirements to counter laxity in the sector. From September 1, new users must complete level 1 KYC verification involving identity documents and facial authentication. Existing users have until October 1 to comply. Regulators have criticized lax KYC checks for fostering fraud and illicit activities. Bitget’s move aligns with industry trends as exchanges like Kucoin have introduced similar measures. Bitget has 20 million users and a $310 billion 24-hour trading volume.
