US Imposes Sanctions on Individuals Undermining Sudan’s Democratic Transition: Targeting Threats to Peace and Stability

Recent Regulations & NewsUS Imposes Sanctions on Individuals Undermining Sudan's Democratic Transition: Targeting Threats to Peace and Stability

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on several individuals for their role in undermining the peace, security, and stability of Sudan. This action is taken under Executive Order 14098, targeting individuals who pose a threat to Sudan’s democratic transition. The sanctioned individuals include Taha Osman Ahmed al-Hussein, a former State Minister and Presidential Office Director under the regime of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, Salah Abdallah Mohamed Salah (Salah Gosh), a former high-ranking Sudanese government official involved in efforts to destabilize Sudan, and Mohamed Etta Elmoula Abbas (Elmoula), a former Sudanese Ambassador and leader of Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Service. These designations support diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and emphasize the U.S. commitment to achieving a civilian government and democratic transition in Sudan. The sanctions block the property and interests of the designated individuals in the U.S. and prohibit transactions involving them. OFAC aims to hold accountable those contributing to the instability in Sudan and undermining prospects for a peaceful resolution.
