The UK Gambling Commission has imposed a regulatory settlement of £582,120 on Bet365 for failures in anti-money laundering and social responsibility at its online operations. The settlement is divided between Bet365’s bingo and casino (£343,035) and sports betting (£239,085) divisions. Compliance checks in March 2022 revealed several breaches:
- Social responsibility failures included inadequate customer interactions and an ineffective Early Risk Detection System.
- Anti-money laundering failures involved ineffective customer due diligence and lack of financial sanctions checks on new customers.
Kay Roberts, Executive Director of Operations at the Gambling Commission, emphasized the importance of high standards in keeping gambling safe, fair, and crime-free. Bet365 had previously been fined by the Swedish gaming regulator, Spelinspektionen, for similar breaches. The total fines issued to the gambling industry in 2024 now stand at £30,748,935 / $38,896,419 / €35,893,346.
