In 2023, over 324,000 cryptocurrency users fell victim to phishing scams, resulting in approximately $295 million in digital asset losses, according to the “2023 Wallet Drainers Report” by blockchain security platform Scam Sniffer. The report analyzed trends related to drainers used in crypto phishing scams, highlighting a continued growth in phishing activities throughout the year. Scam Sniffer noted that even when drainers shut down, phishing gangs quickly relocate their operations. The report also pointed out that various platforms continue to offer services to support scammers. Additionally, scammers have found ways to circumvent advertising guidelines, with phishing websites publishing paid Google Search and Twitter ads.
