Group-IB’s Tashkent Digital Crime Resistance Centre Eyes Expansion and Global Network Integration

Fraud, Bribery & CorruptionGroup-IB's Tashkent Digital Crime Resistance Centre Eyes Expansion and Global Network Integration

Group-IB, a prominent cybersecurity technology provider, has inaugurated its inaugural Digital Crime Resistance Center (DCRC) in Central Asia, situated in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This move underscores Group-IB’s global expansion strategy and its proactive stance in addressing cyber threats, particularly those originating from the Russian-speaking hacker community.

Selecting Uzbekistan for the DCRC acknowledges the region’s economic significance and potential to become a global cybersecurity hub. The center aims to enhance Group-IB’s visibility into regional threats and the activities of Russian-speaking threat actors. In August 2023, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan collaborated with Group-IB to counter cyber attacks and bolster cybersecurity.

The Uzbekistan office, located in Tashkent’s IT Park, currently comprises 21 professionals focusing on Fraud Protection, Threat Intelligence, Digital Risk Protection, and software development. Group-IB collaborates with local educational institutions, fostering partnerships with young cybersecurity professionals.

The Tashkent DCRC, staffed by world-leading threat researchers, includes dedicated units for Cyber Emergency Response, Digital Risk Protection, Fraud Protection, and Audit. Future plans involve expanding with experts from Group-IB’s Managed Extended Detection and Response, Digital Forensics, and High-Tech Crime Investigations units. This initiative aligns with Group-IB’s broader strategy to establish a global network of Digital Crime Resistance Centers, with Uzbekistan joining existing locations in Singapore, Dubai, Amsterdam, and Thailand.

These centers, staffed with experienced researchers, investigate cybercrimes, respond to incidents, monitor local threats, and assess regional trends to support clients and partners. Group-IB maintains a commitment to processing customer data in compliance with international law at strategically located data centers. The company plans further expansion in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Latin American regions in 2024.
