ESGYard Stick Secures $12M to Transform Soil Carbon Measurement for Sustainable Agriculture

Yard Stick PBC, a soil carbon measurement technology company, has successfully concluded its Series A funding round, securing $12 million to advance its mission of enhancing the accountability and effectiveness of soil carbon sequestration projects. Founded in 2021, Yard Stick, based in California, utilizes hardware and software to sample, quantify, and verify carbon sequestration in soils. The technology offers third-party validation for companies aiming to decarbonize their agricultural supply chains or offset emissions through voluntary carbon markets. Yard Stick’s solution provides soil organic carbon measurements up to a meter in depth, real-time data collection, and statistically sound sample plans at 70-90% lower costs than other providers. The funding will bolster Yard Stick’s position in soil carbon measurement, addressing a key barrier to scaling soil-based sequestration projects. Investors in the Series A round include Extantia, Toyota Ventures Climate Fund, Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund, The Nature Conservancy, Lowercarbon Capital, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Pillar VC, and other climate-committed entities. This funding aligns with the increasing demand for carbon offset projects as companies pursue net-zero goals, emphasizing the importance of reliable Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) solutions in the growing and evolving market.
