Cabinet Shockwaves: UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman Ousted Amid Controversial Remarks, David Cameron Returns in Unprecedented Role

Recent Regulations & NewsCabinet Shockwaves: UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman Ousted Amid Controversial Remarks, David Cameron Returns in Unprecedented Role

Following Suella Braverman’s removal as the UK Home Secretary, James Cleverly was appointed as the Secretary of State for Home Affairs in a significant cabinet reshuffle. In a surprising move, former Prime Minister David Cameron also assumed the role of Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs. This marks only the second instance post-World War II of a former Prime Minister returning to the cabinet.

Braverman’s dismissal came after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak sacked her due to her critical remarks about the Metropolitan Police’s handling of Pro-Palestine rallies. Braverman accused the police of applying a “double standard” to certain elements in these rallies. This decision follows mounting pressure on PM Sunak over Braverman’s article in The Times UK. Notably, this is the second time Cameron has joined the cabinet since resigning as Prime Minister in 2016 after the Brexit referendum.

Braverman’s criticism of the police included a warning to police chiefs about displaying Palestinian flags in the UK streets, stating that it might not be legitimate if seen as supporting terrorism. On November 11, one of the largest Pro-Palestine marches in London took place, opposing US President Joe Biden’s support for Israel’s military actions in response to Hamas attacks. The demonstration reportedly featured pro-Hamas slogans, anti-Jewish chants, and anti-Semitic banners, according to Israel’s Channel 12.
