Alabama Rep. John Rogers Ordered to Jail Over Alleged Bond Violation in Bribery Case

Fraud, Bribery & CorruptionAlabama Rep. John Rogers Ordered to Jail Over Alleged Bond Violation in Bribery Case

A federal judge on Monday ordered Alabama Representative John Rogers to jail for violating his bond by contacting a witness in his bribery case. U.S. Magistrate Judge Staci Cornelius issued the order after federal prosecutors claimed Rogers violated his bond by FaceTime calling the founder of a nonprofit involved in the case. Rogers, facing charges of obstruction of justice and bribery, allegedly offered public money to the nonprofit founder in exchange for lying to the FBI. The court will hold a hearing on Thursday. Rogers denies the violation, attributing it to an “erroneous phone call.” The case involves allegations of bribery and money laundering tied to a music nonprofit funded by Rogers through public tax dollars. Rogers, 82, has served in the Alabama legislature for over 40 years.
