Malaysian Airline Co-Founder Arrested Over Money Laundering Concerns: MYAirline’s Sudden Suspension Sparks Investigation

Money LaunderingMalaysian Airline Co-Founder Arrested Over Money Laundering Concerns: MYAirline's Sudden Suspension Sparks Investigation

On October 17th, Malaysian authorities arrested the co-founder of a domestic airline, along with his wife and son, under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. The arrested individual is Datuk Allan Goh Hwan Hua, who is a key shareholder of MYAirline, a recently suspended low-cost carrier in Malaysia.

MYAirline abruptly suspended its flight operations on October 12th, citing significant financial pressures. The airline had started its operations in December 2022 and had plans to expand its fleet and routes.

Datuk Allan Goh Hwan Hua’s family members were also arrested in connection with this case. The airline’s board included notable figures like former officials from the Civil Aviation Department of Malaysia and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.

Furthermore, Datuk Allan Goh Hwan Hua has been linked to a money laundering case involving the company Trillion Cove Holdings Bhd. Trillion Cove was involved in a case with former Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) CEO Datuk Mohamad Madani Sahari, facing allegations of money laundering. Goh’s involvement extended to i-Serve Online Mall Sdn Bhd, a company penalized by Bank Negara Malaysia for accepting deposits without the necessary license.

These developments raise concerns about financial irregularities in MYAirline and associated companies, potentially involving money laundering and unauthorized deposit-taking activities.
