Guinea’s Ousted Health Minister Faces Embezzlement Charges Amid Anti-Corruption Drive

Fraud, Bribery & CorruptionGuinea's Ousted Health Minister Faces Embezzlement Charges Amid Anti-Corruption Drive

Guinea’s former health minister, Mamadou Pethe Diallo, recently dismissed from his position, now faces charges of embezzlement and illicit enrichment. The country’s junta, led by Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, who took power in a 2021 coup, has prioritized the fight against corruption. Diallo was removed from his post on November 21 and subsequently arrested. His lawyers argue that the accusations are politically motivated, emphasizing that Diallo does not recognize himself in the charges. The charges were brought by an anti-corruption court established by the military leaders who ousted President Alpha Conde. The junta has initiated investigations against individuals associated with the former regime, including those in the opposition to Conde. Doumbouya has pledged to transition to civilian rule by January 2026.
